Delgres founder Pascal Danaë had already been established as a virtuoso guitarist, played in London and worked with Morcheeba, Youssou N’Dour, and Peter Gabriel, when he decided his heart required a different kind of music. He discovered the blues and his new instrument, the dobro, while living in Amsterdam. Eight years later, the band he formed to play that music, Delgres, have made a debut album, Mo Jodi, which was released last August and delivers a strikingly unique take on the blues. Named after Louis Delgres, a black Napoleonic officer from Guadeloupe, where Danaë’s roots are, the band’s music takes influences from everywhere: a Creole vibe mixed with Caribbean sounds, dance beats, glamrock-guitar and even some rockabilly. An experience, to say the least.
