Northern Ireland-born legend Van Morrison has always made his own plan when it comes to musical styles, playing music that varies from jazz to Celtic sounds and from blue-eyed soul to folk. However, the raw blues with which he grew up (his teenage idols included Howlin' Wolf and Sonny Boy Williamson) remains at the heart of his music. The singer-songwriter started out in the band Them, for which he wrote the hit single Gloria, among others. During his solo career, he treated the world to absolute classics such as Brown Eyed Girl and Have I Told You Lately. Having started his professional career in the 1950s, he can now draw on an unbelievable body of work that remains timeless, including albums such as Astral Weeks, Moondance, Avalon Sunset, Tupelo Honey, Veedon Fleece, and many more. Now well in his seventies, Morrison vows to “keep writing songs until my last breath”. We’ll hold him to that!
