BETH HART AND WALTER TROUT JOIN ANNIVERSARY EDITION OF THE HOLLAND INTERNATIONAL BLUES FESTIVAL

The Holland International Blues Festival will be celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2020 with an extra festival day and the return of several crowd favorites. Beth Hart, Walter Trout, and Wayon & The Blizzards will perform at Blues Village Grolloo on Friday 12 June. Laurence Jones, Chris Cain, and The War and Treaty will attend on Saturday 13 June. The festival opens on Thursday 11 June with, among others, Curtis Salgado, Danielle Nicole, and DeWolff. More names will be announced at a later date.

Beth Hart is a force to be reckoned with, with her raw energy, distinctive voice, powerful piano playing and songs that come straight from the heart. With a special place in her heart for this country because it was one of the first places where she found success, Hart will be back in Grolloo after sold-out shows in Ziggo Dome (2018) as well as two AFAS Live dates this November. Her latest album War In My Mind was released in September.

After five decades, Trout is the beating heart of the modern blues rock scene; respected by the old guard, revered by the young guns, and adored by the fans who shake his hand after the show each night. He released classic albums such as 1990’s Life In The Jungle, 1998’s Walter Trout, his breakthrough album, and 2012’s Blues For The Modern Daze. His latest album, Survivor Blues, was released this year.

The festival which takes place in honor of Harry Muskee around his birthday, also brings a live tribute to the singer and his band Cuby + Blizzards on this jubilee edition. Singer Waylon has been asked to perform the repertoire of Muskee in Grolloo, together with The Blizzards who reunite especially for this occasion.

Guitar whizz kid Laurence Jones is a true friend of the festival. After performing in Grolloo two times before (during his first time he even collaborated with Buddy Guy), he is back for a third. Often labeled as “the future of blues”, Jones was inducted into the British Blues Awards’ Hall of Fame as Young Artist of the Year in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Having made seven albums already, his latest, Laurence Jones Band, was released this September.

American blues guitarist Chris Cain, praised by both Joe Bonamassa and the late B.B. King, burst onto the blues scene in 1987 with his debut album, Late Night City Blues, which received four Blues Music Award nominations including Blues Guitarist of the Year. To date he has released twelve albums, the latest being 2017’s Chris Cain

The War and Treaty consists of Michael and Tanya Trotter, an American couple that came together because it was fate. Having been compared to Ike & Tina Turner and Tanya to Aretha Franklin, The War and Treaty are mostly a band that delivers, both on recordings and during live shows. Their debut album, 2018’s Healing Tide, was produced by Americana veteran Buddy Miller.

With a career lasting over 30 years, vocalist and harmonica player Curtis Salgado has become a household name in blues. After leading The Nighthawks in his hometown of Eugene, Arizona, he was part of The Robert Cray Band and fronted Roomful of Blues before forming his own band and releasing his debut album in 1991. Salgado did a stint with Santana and performed with Steve Miller. He was also the inspiration behind John Belushi’s creation of The Blues Brothers. His latest album was Rough Cut, which he recorded with guitarist Alan Hager.

Having grown up playing the blues, singer and bassist Danielle Nicole first found fame as a founding member of Trampled Under Foot. She became the first woman to win the Blues Foundation’s Blues Music Award for Best Instrumentalist, Bass in 2014. Danielle released her first solo album, Wolf Den, in 2015. In 2018 it was followed by its successor Cry No More, which peaked at number 1 in the Billboard Top Blues Albums chart.

Although still being considered a young band, DeWolff has been around for more than ten years. Robin Piso and brothers Luka and Pablo van de Poel form a highly electrified Hammond-driven power trio. To date, they have released six albums, three live albums, won a Dutch Grammy Award, and recorded an album with Black Keys producer Mark Neill. Also, Pablo was named The Netherlands’ number one guitar player twice. Their seventh studio album, Tascam Tapes, is due for release in January. It was recorded on the road, without the use of drums, Hammond organ or guitar amplifiers.
