BETTE SMITH
Friday 9 June
The daughter of a church choir director, Bette Smith was singing since she was five years old. She grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where she picked up several influences: gospel from her mother’s records and soul from the corners of her neighbourhood. Although she was educated in culinary college, creative arts therapy and social work, Smith decided to pursue her dream of becoming a professional singer and made her first few records under the name Bette Stuy, referring to her Brooklyn roots. In 2017, she released her first album as Bette Smith, Jetlagger, to rave reviews, followed by 2020’s The Good, The Bad and The Bette. In between, she performed at stages and festivals all through the U.S. and Europe. With a voice that brings emotions to life and can shatter hearts and ears alike, Bette Smith will blow you away in Grolloo.
